Marilyn Wellington is the Executive Director of the Board of Bar Examiners, appointed by the Supreme Judicial Court in September of 2010. In this position, she is responsible for the administration and management of the Board of Bar Examiners in its mandate to examine the qualifications of persons seeking admission to the Massachusetts bar, including investigating the character and fitness for admission of bar applicants.

Marilyn currently serves on the Supreme Judicial Court’s Standing Advisory Committee on Professionalism and the Massachusetts Access to Justice Commission, and as Massachusetts Co-Chair for the American Bar Foundation’s Fellows Program. She is a past Chair of the Council of Bar Admission Administrators and a current member of the Board of Trustees for the National Conference of Bar Examiners, where she Chairs the Uniform Bar Examination Committee.

Prior to her appointment with the Board of Bar Examiners, Marilyn held positions in non-profit and public sector organizations across the legal community, including Executive Director to the Massachusetts Bar Association, Chief of Staff to the Massachusetts Trial Court System, and Principal Court Management Consultant for the National Center for State Courts. Throughout her career, Ms. Wellington has been involved in volunteer activities on issues of importance and concern to her, particularly in the areas of delivery of services to persons with mental illness, persons who are homeless, and other vulnerable populations. She has worked on the establishment of court programs to provide for the special needs of the homeless and persons with mental illness; assisted in the development of programs to provide legal services to veterans; and worked to ensure the safety of residential care programs for persons with mental illness.
