Scott Bales is a member of the American Bar Association’s Council on Legal Education and Admission to the Bar. He chaired the Council from August 2020 to August 2021, after having served on the Council since 2018 and on its Accreditation Committee from 2013-2018. He this year joined the Board of Trustees for the National Conference of Bar Examiners. Bales served on Arizona’s Supreme Court for fourteen years, including as its Chief Justice from 2014-2019. While a member of the Conference of Chief Justices, he chaired its Education Committee and served on its Professionalism Committee. He also is a former chair of the Appellate Judges Conference of the ABA’s Judicial Division. Before joining Arizona’s Supreme Court in 2005, he had practiced for 20 years as a private and public lawyer, including as a federal prosecutor, a Deputy Assistant Attorney General is the U.S. Department of Justice, and Arizona’s Solicitor General.
