John Elliot has been Director of Regulation of the Law Society of Ireland since 2004.
John is responsible for direction and management of the regulatory function of Law Society of Ireland in relation to the solicitors’ profession in Ireland and holds the statutory office of Registrar of Solicitors.
He is a member of Law Society senior management team, secretary to Regulation of Practice Committee, member of Professional Indemnity Insurance Committee, member of Money Laundering Reporting Committee, member of Legal Services Regulation Act Task Force.
The regulatory function of Law Society of Ireland includes client money protection, anti-money laundering compliance, financial disciplinary proceedings, regulatory litigation, professional indemnity insurance, practising certificates, practice closure intervention.
John is a solicitor and was formerly the chief legal officer and company secretary of ACCBank (which became part of the Rabobank Group). Before that he worked in London as a senior legal adviser to multinational investment company 3i and started his career in private legal practice in Edinburgh in 1983.
