Elaine Cumming graduated from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia with an LLB and a Specialization in Health Law and Policy. Following graduation, she articled with a boutique litigation firm in Halifax, and continued there as an associate practicing primarily in the areas of personal injury and criminal defence. She left private practice to join the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society in 2004. Elaine acts as in-house counsel to the Society and is responsible for the development and implementation of best practices, legislative drafting, ethics education and administration of the Fitness to Practise program.

Elaine serves on a number of National committees and working groups, including the Standing Committee on the Model Code of Professional Conduct and the Terrorist Financing and Anti-Money Laundering Working Group.
